Neil Innes, Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band co-founder, Rutles member and writer of all of that group's hilarious Beatles parodies and Monty Python member/contributor died suddenly and unexpectedly Sunday night, December 29th. According to his family, he'd not been sick and the cause of his passing has of yet not been determined.

The Neil Young master tapes for this second box set were sitting in Chris Bellman's mastering suite last winter when I visited and interviewed Bernie Grundman about the Blue Note reissues, some of which were originally digitized at BGM Mastering and some of which were cut to lacquer by Chris.

A man needs to harvest a heart of gold, and Neil Young’s groundbreaking February 1972 album Harvest provides all the aural goods on wax to do just that. (Yes, I mashed up a few album titles there, but you get the point.) Shakey Pictures Records and Reprise Records announced today The Neil Young Official Bootleg Series, which will commence with an official release of Neil's legendary December 4th, 1970 Carnegie Hall debut show available now for pre-order at The Greedy Hand Store at Neil Young Archives. A bootlegged version of the later midnight show helped make the evening among Neil's most fabled appearances, but according to the press release the earlier show, not captured by bootleggers, was the better one.

The Erroll Garner Project in cooperation with the University of Pittsburgh (where Octave Music in 2015 archived Garner’s physical assets) and in partnership with Mack Avenue Music Group celebrate what would have been Garner’s 100th birthday with three forthcoming vinyl releases due September 17th: Liberation in Swing: Centennial Collection is a Deluxe Limited Edition Box Set, Liberation in Swing: The Octave Records Story & Complete Symphony Hall Concert (Standard Edition Box Set) and Symphony Hall Concert (single 180g LP, CD and digital editions).

On November 12th Universal will release numerous versions of The Who's Tommy, including "Deluxe" as well as "Super Deluxe" editions as well as the original configuration on double 180g vinyl. The press release doesn't divulge the vinyl source, who mastered or who is pressing.

March 9 – Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings have released Jimi Hendrix’s new album Both Sides of the Sky today on CD, digital, and as a numbered 180-gram audiophile vinyl 2 LP set. NPR Music recently declared, “No rock figure before or since could breathe fire like Hendrix does, on his beloved well-known albums and on the assortment that is Both Sides of the Sky.” For the occasion, director John Vondracek has created a music video for “Lover Man,” a single from the album.
