Mobile Fidelity just announced the availability for order of its Bridge Over Troubled Water reissue, produced as a limited to 7500 copies "one-step" double 45rpm release.

All previous reissues have sold out quickly and quickly became instant collectibles. So if you want it, get it now. There's something to be said for a clean 1A Columbia pressing cut when the tape was fresh but they are difficult to find and later "original pressings" lost some of the top end luster. This was issued by Mobile Fidelity as a 33 1/3 1/2 speed mastered release (MFSL 1-173) pressed in Japan on JVC "super vinyl" and again reissued by Classic Records on 33 1/3 and on 45rpm on 4 one-sides LPs cut by Bernie Grundman.

Each of these reissues has its outstanding sonic qualities and all are somewhat different with the 45 set having the greatest dynamic "slam" and the original having the most depth and liquidity. Hopefully the tape is still in reasonably good shape and Mobile Fidelity can get the most out of it as a "one-step" release. One thing's for sure: the current mastering team produces the best releases in terms of equalization and the current mastering system is among the world's most transparent. So there's good reason for optimism!
