"Bang, The Bert Berns Story" Documentary Coming to Apple Music October 24th

Sometimes the press release says it all. This is one of those times:

"Music meets the mob in this biographical documentary, narrated by Steven Van Zandt, about the life and and career of Bert Berns, "the most important songwriter and record producer from the ‘60s that you’ve never heard of."

His hits include “Twist and Shout”, “Hang on Sloopy”, “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Here Comes the Night” and “Piece of My Heart”. He helped launch the careers of Van Morrison and Neil Diamond and produced some of the greatest soul music ever made.

Filmmaker Brett Berns brings his late father’s story to the screen through interviews with those who knew him best, and rare performance footage. Included in the films are interviews with Ronald Isley, Ben E. King, Solomon Burke, Van Morrison, Keith Richards, and Paul McCartney.

The film will premiere exclusively on Apple Music on Oct 24th and joins Apple Music’s recent slate of music documentaries, including Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story, a film about Sean "Diddy” Combs, and Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives.

Brett Berns, Bert’s son directed, and the documentary that narrated by Bruce Springsteen E Street Band guitarist and "Sopranos" star Little Steven Van Zandt. The film was co-directed and edited by Bob Sarles with narration based based on Joel Selvin’s book "Here Comes the Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues".

A few years back there was a show running off-broadway about Brett Burns. It was pretty good and very enlightening, but I don't think that it, or Mr. Burns, got the recognition it, or they, deserves.
